‘Anambra is facing challenges’ — United Nigeria Airlines chair declares guber bid

Obiora Okonkwo, chairman of the United Nigeria Airlines, has declared his intention to run for the 2025 Anambra governorship election on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Speaking at an event to declare his intention in Idemili north LGA of the state, Okonkwo said Anambra is facing “serious challenges”, adding that despite the state’s potentials, it still faces the problems of unemployment, insecurity and economic stagnation.

The professor said the people of Anambra must prioritise competence over zoning.

“It is time to choose the best candidate who can lead the charge to rescue and rebuild our state,” he said.

As a way of providing employment, the United Nigeria Airlines chairman said he would institutionalise “Nkwado Ogalanya” (Igba Boi), a model that would provide young people with vocational and entrepreneurial skills.

The businessman said he was one of those instrumental to the formation of the APC and that his loyalty to the party is unquestionable.

Okonkwo said his governorship bid is a movement to reclaim Anambra and to deliver leadership the people deserve.

The governorship hopeful said if elected, he would make Anambra a beacon of excellence and good governance with the support of the people.

The governorship election in Anambra has been fixed for November by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
