Late Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu was on Thursday immortalised by the Anambra the state house of assembly, as a bill naming the state-owned university after the former Biafra hero was passed into law.
Honourable Rita Maduagwu, representing Nnewi South 2 constituency and chairman of the house committee on education, said the bill was long overdue since it passed second reading on the floor of the house on December 17, 2013.
She disclosed that the committee recommended the change of name, as there were a number of provisions in the extant law that required review.
“After due consideration of facts and information, the committee recommends that the law establishing the university be repealed while a new law aimed at amending the principal law be passed,” Maduagwu said.

Commenting on the development, Honourable Tony Muonagor, representing Idemili North constituency, said the aim of the exercise was to immortalise the late Ojukwu and to encourage hard work among the people of the state and the country at large.
Honourable Obinna Emenakaya, Anambra East constituency, said the hero deserved the honour because he fought and lived for the Igbo people.
Mrs Chinwe Nwaebili, the speaker, said the university would be a multi-campus institution located in Awka, Igbariam and Uli.
