Anambra warns against illegal sale of its properties in Enugu

Chike Anyaonu

Chike Anyaonu, managing director, Anambra State Housing Development Corporation, says the state’s properties in Enugu are not for sale.

He disclosed this on Friday in a statement issued by Paul Nwosu, the commissioner for information.

Anyaonu said the state government has not authorised anyone to sell its properties, warning the public to be cautious of fraudulent individuals posing as agents.

He also highlighted the differences in the handling of properties across various locations, noting that Anambra’s assets in Abuja and Lagos remain problem-free, while the ones in Enugu have come under threat.

The five properties are located at 30/32 Abakaliki road, GRA, Enugu; plot 6 Ogbolu crescent, GRA, Enugu; plot 14 Charles street, GRA, Enugu; plot 3, Independence layout, Enugu; and plot 650, Independence layout, Enugu.

“The Anambra State Government led by Prof Chukwuma Charles Soludo, CFR, has not directed any persons to act as agents to sell these properties,” he said.

“The properties inherited by Anambra State in Abuja and Lagos have not had any problems whatsoever, but the ones in Enugu are surreptitiously being preyed upon for sale by some individuals that Hon Anyaonu described as unscrupulous scavengers and grabbers.”

He said that officers from the Anambra State Housing Development Corporation have taken measures to protect the properties.

“The officers of the Anambra State Housing Development Corporation have since physically posted caveat emptor posters on the 5 properties, and formally written to the Lands Registry in Enugu and the Enugu and Anambra States Police commands,” he explained.

“Therefore, anybody purporting to buy any of the properties from the impostors is doing a grave damage to himself.”

The dispute over these properties dates back to 1992, when the federal government allocated assets between Anambra and Enugu following the creation of the two states in 1991.
