Ancelotti returns to Real Madrid after leaving Everton

Real Madrid have announced Carlo Ancelotti, Italian coach, as their new manager six years after sacking him.

In a statement released on Monday, the Spanish club announced the return of Ancelotti, who resigned from Everton to join Los Merengues a second time.

The three-time Champions League winner leaves Everton after just 18 months in charge at Goodison Park.

The former PSG and Chelsea manager has signed a three-year contract and will be unveiled on Wednesday to take over from Zinedine Zidane who resigned on Monday.

“Real Madrid C. F. announces that Carlo Ancelotti will be the club’s first-team coach for the next three seasons,” the club said.

“The ceremonial signing of the contract will take place tomorrow with club president Florentino Pérez at Real Madrid City, after which Ancelotti will address the media from 6pm (CET) in an online press conference.”

Ancelotti said the “unexpected opportunity” and allure of Madrid was too good to overlook.

He spent two seasons at Real Madrid from 2013-2015, winning La Decima, the much-coveted 10th UEFA Champions League title for the club.

He was sacked after failing to win a trophy in his second season at the club.
