Angry workers lock out RMAFC commissioners during protest

Some staff of the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC), on Tuesday, staged a protest against commissioners of the organisation, denying them access into the commission head office in Abuja.

One of the aggrieved workers told TheCable that they were protesting against extension of tenure of the commissioners.

The worker, who did not want to be named, accused the commissioners  of plotting to take over the responsibilities of the commission’s directors by making themselves permanent members of the board.

While the demonstration was ongoing, Musa Abari, commissioner representing the federal capital territory (FCT), put a call through to the police but the protesters refused to back down.

Despite the presence of armed security operatives, the angry workers attempted to attack Abari who was dressed in a white “agbada” attire.

They also restricted movement in and out of the premises.

Addressing some of the staff, Elias Mbam, chairman of the commission, assured the staff of his full support. He, however, begged them to remain peaceful.

Amanabo Josiah, chairman of the Nigeria Civil Service Union, refused to speak on the issue, saying a communique would soon be issued.

President Muhammadu Buhari had sworn in 29 commissioners as members of the RMAFC board in June 2019.

Seven states are yet to get representation on the board.
