The Edo state police has arrested one Abel Eku, a pastor in Christ Chosen Church of God, for allegedly planting a bomb in the headquarters of the church.
Eku planted the explosives inside the auditorium of the church headquarters on January 22, ahead of the church’s international conference, Daily Trust reports.
The explosives were reportedly detected by some members, who then called the attention of the police to detonate the explosives.
Eku was quoted to have said that he planted the bomb out of annoyance, following his dismissal from the church despite his 22 years of service.

The explosives, he said, were only meant to scare members of the church, adding that he thereafter regretted his action.
“The bomb was not meant to kill but to scare the church members and elders. I did it out of annoyance but later I regretted my action and I called the church officials after planting it to inform them about the location of the bomb,” Eku said.
“I am 57 years old. I had marital issues with my wife. We came to the church to resolve it and it was not resolved.

“It led to my dismissal. I was very bitter about the dismissal. I don’t have the intention of killing people. My action is very bad.”
Haliru Gwandu, the state police commissioner, assured that the suspect will be charged to court after investigation.
