Social media reactions have trailed the endorsement of Asue Ighodalo, governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo state, by Bashir, son of Nasir el-Rufai, former governor of Kaduna state.

Bashir has been a supporter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and President Bola Tinubu.

Monday Okpebholo is the APC governorship candidate in the September 21 election in Edo state.

But in a post on X on Thursday, Bashir mentioned Ighodalo along with a gold medal emoji — used to signify victory or achievement.

“Asue Ighodalo. Edo State.🥇,” the post reads.

The endorsement has sparked mixed reactions on social media, with some X users describing his action as anti-party.
