Anxiety over intense security checks at national assembly

There is currently anxiety at the national assembly over intense checks by the police and other security agencies.

Lawmakers, national assembly workers, legislative aides and visitors were made to undergo thorough checks.

Identity cards were checked and vehicles were searched before anyone could gain entry into the national assembly.

The security protocol witnessed on Thursday was different from that of Wednesday or Tuesday.

Only the house of representatives is holding a plenary session as the senate adjourned until next week.

It is unclear what intelligence the security agents are working on but the development caused gridlock at the entrance of the national assembly.

On Wednesday, Clifford Ordia, senator representing Edo central, told reporters how he escaped attacks by bandits on Monday on his way to Abuja from Edo.

In the past weeks, there has been a spike in the activities of insurgents, bandits and kidnappers.

On Monday, Sani Bello, Niger governor, said Boko Haram hoisted its flag in Shiroro LGA of the state.
