The All Progressives Congress (APC) says the capture of Sambisa forest by the Nigerian army is due to President Muhammadu Buhari’s focused leadership.
On Saturday, Buhari announced that the Boko Haram insurgents had been “crushed” and their camp in the forest destroyed.
In a statement on Sunday, Bolaji Abdullahi, the party’s spokesman, said the victory was in fulfillment of one of the party’s promises in the run-up to the 2015 election.
Abdullahi said the government would intensify efforts in rebuilding the north east and rehabilitating the displaced persons.

“Friday’s capture of Sambisa forest, Boko Haram’s last stronghold is well-deserved and a welcome development following the vigorous and focused leadership the President Muhammadu Buhari-led APC administration has provided in the fight against insurgency in the north east,” the statement read.
“The victory is in fulfillment of one of the key promises made by the party to protect the citizenry and effectively secure all Nigerian territory.
“Going forward, the priority of government is to intensify ongoing efforts at re-constructing and rehabilitating the north east so that displaced persons can return to their peaceful and productive lives.”
