APC seeks foreign probe of B’Haram’s sponsors

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has called for an international inquiry into the activities of Boko Haram in order to unravel its mode of operations and sponsors with a view to ending the debate about who is behind the terror group, the party’s spokesman, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, has said.

TheCable had reported on Saturday that the British parliament could examine the links between Boko Haram and the APC.

In a statement on Sunday, Mohammed said that the inquiry should include “intelligence experts from the United States, the United Kingdom, France and Canada as well as representatives of the UN and Nigeria’s of the United Nations and Nigeria’s neighbours Cameroon, Chad and Niger”.

He also said that the representatives of the Nigerian military and security agencies, especially the police and departments of state security, governments of states worst-hit by the Boko Haram insurgency, the Christian Association of Nigeria, the Supreme Council of Islamic Affairs, civil society organizations, the Nigeria Labour Congress, the Trade Union Congress, the National Human Rights Commission, the Nigerian Bar Association, the, APC, the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP) and relevant individuals or groups should be on the panel of inquiry of which “findings must be made public and those found to have any links with the insurgents made to face the full wrath of the law”.

Mohammed further said: “We hope the PDP-led federal government, which has led the incessant but baseless campaign to point accusing fingers at the opposition, especially our party the APC, will give its total support to the immediate constitution of this international panel of inquiry. We have no doubt that the international community will give its unalloyed support to this inquiry, in view of the trans-national nature of the insurgency and the threat posed by terrorism to global peace and security.

”On our part, we pledge our total support for this inquiry anytime it is launched, but hopefully very soon. Our party, which is barely one year old, has been at the receiving end of diversionary, carefully-choreographed and blatantly irresponsible point-blank accusations as well as insinuations of sponsoring Boko Haram, not minding that the group’s activities date as far back as 2002 when there was no APC.

”These accusations and insinuations have become so virulent and have indeed reached a level where one begins to wonder whether those behind the finger-pointing are actually trying to divert attention from their own culpability and whether they have even more sinister motives for their finger-pointing.

”Whatever their motives are, let the international inquiry we are seeking be launched urgently and let the findings be published for all Nigerians to see. Anyone opposed to this call for an international inquiry will have a lot of explanations to make to Nigerians as well as to the international community.

”Enough is enough. The daily killing, maiming and abduction of innocent Nigerians, as a clueless Federal Government looks on, must end. The pervasive insecurity that has crippled Nigeria since this insurgency started must be halted. Those behind it must be unraveled and prosecuted. Let the inquiry begin!”

  1. It is not enough to say you will support the enquiry.
How are you sure the results of this enquiry will not be manipulated by PDP or whoever the real sponsors are?
they can mobilise as much money as this will require.APC,You need to do more if their accusations of you sponsoring Boko Haram will not continue to look true

  2. Inquiry? I am still worried by the political orchestration that has dogged the Boko Haram issue. The ruling party has consistently accused APC of sponsoring Boko Haram and APC on its pat push the bulk back to PDP as brain behind the insurgents. Laughable! The Boko Haram is a horde of fanatics and religious bigots who do not know any political party, I guess. I stand to be corrected.

I was literally taken aback when Ibrahim Shekau in his recent video footage described Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo as Lagos State Governor! This shows brevity of his understanding of the political structure of the country and clear indication that he is not being used by any political God Father. I still stand to be corrected. The Boko Haram is a composition of bunch of criminals and blood thirsty killers who have been heavily brainwashed religiously. Call for inquiry is also political, which will amount to wasting quality time that would have been used to decisively deal with the miscreants militarily and end the reign of terror.

The international communities should send ammunition to fight the criminals, not inquiry into the activities of the baseless and faceless criminals!

    Nigeria shall win.
