The All Progressives Congress (APC) cannot bee too reliant on public disenchantment with the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and expect to win the 2015 general election, Babalola Borishade, a professor and former director-general of Atiku Abubakar’s presidential primaries campaign organisation, has said.
In a statement released on Saturday, Borishade (pictured, right) urged leaders of the opposition to work extra hard to bring about the much-desired change that will usher in a purposeful political leadership in the country in February.
“Relying on the popular disenchantment with epic failures of the ruling party is not enough if APC does not properly mobilise and galvanise Nigerians on the imperatives of change to replace the current order of despair and despondency,” he said.
“Ruling parties in Africa are always desperate to retain power, regardless of performance, and they won’t mind using every method, however ignoble, to retain power at all costs.

“If PDP could commit injustice against its own members, nothing would stop it from attempting to subvert the will of the voters in the February general election if not checked by APC.”
He therefore called for increased vigilance and greater voter education by the opposition leaders and their supporters.
“PDP will automatically collapse at the polling station next month if the opposition leaders work and sustain the momentum for change,” he added.

“I am impressed by the APC mass appeal, but there is still the need to seize the moment and enlighten our supporters on how to vote properly to minimise cases of voided votes.”
Borishade advised the opposition leaders not to rest on their oars because so much still needs to be done to oust the PDP in February.”
At most of its campaigns in the lead-up to its presidential primary, APC persistently used the “failure of PDP” to make arguments for its own ability to “change” the country.
But calls against PDP and the administration of President Goodluck Jonathan have also been coming from other quarters, the latest being a video footage of Reverend Father Ejike Mbaka’s sermon imploring Jonathan to “resign” because the country’s “destiny” is greater than his, and asking Nigerians to instead vote for Buhari

Prof. you have actually said something there is the need for the APC to sit well in order to unseat the PDP and with the likes of Atiku in the party i am optimistic that APC will be victorious in presidential elections.
