APC challenges Gombe gov election at tribunal

Inuwa Yahaya, candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the Gombe state governorship election, has formally lodged a suit at the state election petition tribunal challenging the re-election of Governor Ibrahim Dankwambo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Niyi Idowu, counsel to Yahaya, submitted the petition on Saturday, and Yahaya thereafter told journalists his client was at the tribunal to seek justice, because it actually won but was robbed of its victory.

“APC won the election but was denied victory by some elements,” he said. “We brought the case to the tribunal to reclaim the mandate given to us by the people of the state.”

Also speaking, Idowu said the submission of the petition was in fulfillment of the requirements of the law and the electoral process granting aggrieved parties the right to present their grievances rather than taking the laws into their hands.

“It is a pointer; it is also a direction to the followers that you can only achieve success by going through the due process,” he said.

“This is what Alhaji Inuwa Yahaya has just done; the battle has just started.”

After the April 11 governorship election, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared PDP’s Dankwambo winner, saying he polled 285,369 votes to Yahaya’s 205,132.

  1. Yes. APC,or any other aggrieved party for that matter, should head for the election tribunal to seek justice. That should not be seen as asking for too much in the case of Gombe. Taraba is onother case in point. This is what the law requires and this is democracy. The time for “ba komi” is over.

  2. APC we are winning the governorship election in Gombe state I am very surely for APC her leading a nine local government in the state.
