APC chieftain: Buhari has not done great with economic policies — Tinubu will fix that

Mustapha Audu, the spokesperson for the north-central arm of the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential campaign council, says Bola Tinubu will fix the “not-so-great” economic policies of President Muhammadu Buhari.

Audu spoke during a programme on Arise TV on Tuesday.

Recently, prominent figures within the APC have criticised the Buhari administration over its naira redesign policy.

Tinubu, the party’s presidential candidate, claimed that the scarcity of cash caused by the policy implementation was aimed at scuttling his chances at the polls.

Nasir el-Rufai, governor of Kaduna, told traders in the state to continue using the old naira notes for their transactions beyond the deadline set by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), saying that Tinubu would reverse the policy if elected.

Speaking on the development, Audu said APC refused to “glamourise what is not working” and “speaks truth to power”.

He noted that while Buhari “brought stability in certain sectors”, the president “has not been great” with economic policies and principles.

The APC chieftain said Tinubu would bridge the economic gap if elected on February 25.

“APC is a party that has dynamic and intelligent people. When something is going right, we support it; when something is not going right, we speak against it. There is no point trying to glamourise what is not working. You have to speak truth to power,” Audu said.

“We came together as a party to fight certain things at the beginning. And the president has tried a lot in fighting insecurity and championing several causes. We have gotten through recessions and COVID-19, and we are right now in the middle of the Ukraine-Russia war and its negative effect on Nigeria.

“Buhari has brought stability in certain sectors and what we want to do, where he has not been great, particularly with economic principles and policies, we bring someone like Tinubu, who has a track record and history of delivering. We want people who have the ability to implement what they say.”
