APC chieftain calls for sustenance of oil pipelines surveillance contract

Blessing Agbomhere, zonal secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the south-south, has called for the sustenance of the oil pipelines surveillance contract awarded to a company owned by Government Ekpemupolo, a former militant known as Tompolo.

The contract awarded to Tantita Security Services Limited (TSSL) is reportedly worth N48 billion annually.

In a statement on Monday, Agbomhere said Nigeria needs all the crude oil it can export because of the state of the economy.

The APC chieftain said security of critical infrastructure should not be the sole responsibility of the authorities.

“Security of lives and property, especially of critical infrastructure, should not be left alone to the government,” he said.

“As individuals and corporate bodies, we should be committed to ensuring that the infrastructure that has cost the government so much money to put in place, and other assets such as oil pipelines, are regularly protected.

“In this era of a debilitating economy, Nigeria needs all the oil it can produce for export. This is why it is very crucial that Tompolo’s contract should be sustained at all cost.”

Agbomhere added that Nigerians should protect public infrastructure such as rail tracks, powerlines, and schools from vandals and criminals.
