Yusuf Ali, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kaduna, says the US, UK, and EU should punish Nigerian politicians who brutalise citizens with thugs.
Ali was reacting to a viral clip of the alleged dehumanisation of Danbilki Kommanda, a political activist.
In a statement on Thursday, the APC chieftain said Nigeria is a democracy where every individual has the right to express their opinions without fear of violence or retribution.
“I call upon the international community, most especially the European Union, the United States of America, and the United Kingdom to take immediate and decisive action by profiling public officials who are found to be sponsoring thugs to brutalize citizens for their political views,” he said.

“These officials must be held accountable for their actions, and one effective measure would be the withdrawal of their visas.
“This step will send a clear and unambiguous message that the international community will not tolerate such gross violations of human rights and democratic principles.
“Let me remind some of our political leaders that Nigeria is NOT under a dictatorship and our party, the APC remains committed to upholding the rule of law, protecting human rights, and fostering a political environment where every Nigerian can freely express their opinions without fear.

“I urge all relevant authorities to investigate this incident thoroughly, bring the perpetrators to justice, and implement measures to prevent such occurrence in the future.”
