The All Progressives Congress (APC) is currently holding its first national executive committee (NEC) meeting since August 2023.

Party chieftains, including former and incumbent governors and senators, have arrived at the APC headquarters in Abuja for the meeting scheduled to begin at 12pm.

Security operatives could be seen milling round the entrance to the building.

The NEC meeting is the first since August 2023, when Abdullahi Ganduje was elected as the party’s national chairman, with Ajibola Basiru, a former senate spokesperson, named the APC national secretary.

Last year, the ruling party scheduled another NEC meeting for September 11 and 12, 2024, but it was postponed indefinitely. No official reason was given for the postponement.

The ruling party has been repeatedly criticised for not holding NEC meetings lately.

On Tuesday, President Bola Tinubu presided over the national caucus meeting of the APC at the conference hall of the presidential villa in Abuja.

The meeting, which was a prelude to Wednesday’s NEC meeting, was graced by several APC bigwigs.
