APC fixes December 8 for emergency NEC meeting

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has fixed December 8 for an emergency national executive committee (NEC) meeting.

In a statement on Sunday night, Yekini Nabena, APC deputy spokesman, said the meeting will be held at the presidential villa by 11:00 am on the scheduled date.

In line with COVID-19 protocol, Nabena said, other members of the highest organ of the party will join the meeting virtually.

“In a formal invitation sent to APC NEC members by the National Secretary of the Party’s Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC), Sen. John James Akpanudoedehe, the meeting will ‘review the Party’s position and set agenda for the Party’s next move’,” he said.

“In line with the COVID-19 public health protocols, the APC NEC meeting will be virtual. Login details will be sent to APC NEC members in due course.

“The meeting is slated for 11am at the Council Chamber, State House, Abuja.”

The meeting is coming seven months after the party’s last NEC meeting.

In June, NEC dissolved the national working committee (NWC) of the party led by Adams Oshiomhole, former APC national chairman, following a leadership crisis.

The current caretaker committee of the APC was set up at that meeting with the task of holding an elective convention within six months.

But the convention has not been held.

Earlier in November, Mai Mala Buni, chairman of the caretaker committee, said the convention would take place soon but that consultations on the registration of party members — a prerequisite for the convention — is still in progress.

There are indications that the tenure of the caretaker committee may be extended to enable it to organise the convention.
