Lanre Ope, one of the 13 aspirants who contest the Lagos governorship primaries of the All Progressive Congress (APC), has formally congratulated Akinwunmi Ambode, winner of the primaries and gubernatorial flag bearer of the party in the 2015 governorship election.
A number of aspirants walked out of the primaries prematurely on Thursday, leaving Ambode alone to withness the proceedings from beginning to end, and leaving the impression of a possible post-primaries rancour in the party.
But Ope, who polled no vote at the primaries, has urged other aspirants to join the winner in prosecuting the enormous “work” that is now to be done.
“Congratulations, my dear brother! The primaries and the campaign preceding the election have been an interesting family affair,” he said.

“There is therefore no victor and no loser. Our great party has won and the loud voice of the delegates have been heard. You can count on me and my campaign organisation to join in the battle ahead.”
Encouraging other aspirants to work together to move the party forward in Lagos state and in the centre, he said: “This is because there is a lot of work to be done and it is only in working together that we will succeed.
“With the primaries concluded, all aspirants must now focus on the general election.”
