The Kano State Independent Electoral Commission says the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano has withdrawn from participating in the state’s LG elections.

Addressing a press conference in Kano on Friday, Sani Malumfashi, chair of the electoral commission, said the commission would conduct the election in line with an order delivered by a state high court.

On October 22, a federal high court in Kano restrained the commission from conducting the October 26 LG polls.

However, Abba Yusuf, Kano governor, said elections would be held on Saturday.

Malumfashi said the commission is ready to conduct the election.

“The main opposition party, which is the APC, has withdrawn from the election as they did not participate in any of the processes,” he said.

“The commission has completed all arrangements to conduct the election in the state on Saturday, in line with the ruling of a Kano State High Court on Friday.

“All six political parties that are participating have adhered to the election timetable and guidelines.”

Malumfashi said politicians should not participate in vote-buying, thuggery, and other forms of violence that contravene the state’s electoral guidelines.
