APC leaders meet over ‘unfavourable’ verdicts

Leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Wednesday met with Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo at the presidential villa to discuss a slew of unfavourable court judgments, TheCable can report.

Recently, the APC witnessed a setback in some of its governorship cases at the supreme court.

It lost to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at the apex court on Rivers, Taraba, Delta and Akwa Ibom petitions.

A source privy to the meeting called by John Oyegun, the national chairman of the APC, told TheCable that leaders of the governing party also discussed the financial state of the party.

“The party leaders met to put their house in order before calling the meeting of the national executive committee (NEC). APC leaders:  The chairman, the senate president, majority leader of the senate, speaker, deputy speaker, Atiku Abubakar, Bola Tinubu, Bisi Akande, Ogbonnaya Onu, Tony Momoh, Audu Ogbeh, chairman governors’forum were at the meeting,” he said.

“The meeting was about party issues such as court rulings, unfolding events in the PDP, and party finances.”

The meeting which lasted about four hours started at about 11am and ended at about 2.40pm.

Saraki arrived at about 12.30pm when the meeting was already underway.

Babafemi Ojudu, political adviser to the president, said participants would not grant interviews, but that the office of the vice-president would issue a statement later.

He said: “The meeting was just a meeting of party chiefs. It does not require that we should have an elaborate discussion with you.

“So, you should allow them to go freely on their own without being asked to come and grant interviews.

“But the Office of the Vice President will issue a short statement on the meeting later.

“What we are saying is that it was just a consultative meeting of selected party leaders on party matters and other issues.”

The senior special assistant to the vice-president on media and publicity, Laolu Akande, issued a two-paragraph on the meeting.

It said: “Select leaders of the All Progressives Congress, APC, drawn from the party’s National Headquarters, the legislative and executive arms of government had a consultative meeting on issues affecting the party and the nation.

“The meeting, which held at the Vice President’s conference room, was very useful and resourceful towards achieving the goals of the party and the government.”

  1. Party leaders meeting is always good for the party because I believe their discussion will be on the way forward for the party and Nigerians considering the fact they are now the ruling party.
