Salihu Lukman, director-general, Progressive Governors Forum (PGF), has asked the All Progressive Congress (APC) not to admit Femi Fani-Kayode into the party.

There are speculations that Fani-Kayode, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), is planning to defect to the APC after he met with Yahaya Bello, governor of Kogi, and Mai Mala Buni, Yobe governor and chairman of APC caretaker committee.

In a statement on Tuesday, Lukman said any association between the party and the former minister of aviation will amount to a “problem of values”.

He said Fani-Kayode had fabricated stories to damage the image of the party and its leaders and is thus not fit to join the progressives.

“The speculation is that Fani-Kayode is on his way to join the APC. The verdict in most media platforms is quite disturbing,” he said.

“Assuming the open letter to our national leader, which is all over the media at the time of such reception, wasn’t offensive.

“What of the open letter he wrote to President Muhammadu Buhari in 2020.

“Nigerians, including APC and non-APC members would appear to be in agreement that any association between the party leadership and Fani-Kayode was indicative of problem of values.

“Without being academic in any way, the issue of values is basically about the qualities of people and the vision they hold.”

Lukman asked the party to be mindful of those it admits as members, adding that “not everyone should be welcomed”.

“Fani-Kayode has fabricated stories, distorted, insulted and damaged information about our party and our leaders.

“Elementary rule of decency would require some good distance between our leaders and such a person.

“Not even the ward leaders where he is located should be associated with him except for reasons of family ties.”
