An All Progressives Congress (APC) panel has upheld an appeal by Shehu Sani, senator representing Kaduna central, over the district’s senatorial primary election.
In a document seen by TheCable, the committee upheld Sani’s prayer challenging the outcome of the election.
Sani had appealed the emergence of Uba Sani as the APC senatorial candidate in the primaries conducted earlier in October.
Uba is an aide to Nasir el-Rufai, Kaduna state governor, who has been at loggerheads with the senator.

He had been declared winner in an election which Sani had refused to participate in. He has described it as a “Kangaroo election organised by the Kaduna state government.”
WHAT ARE THE CONTROVERSIES?
The APC national working committee had earlier cleared Shehu Sani as the sole candidate for the ticket in the zone.

But a senatorial primary election later conducted for the seat saw him polling only 15 votes, with Uba emerging the winner.
The senator, however, challenged the primary election before the party’s appeal committee, arguing he is the only aspirant cleared by the APC.
The senator also argued that the primary was conducted in contempt of court and that he should be returned being “the only candidate” in the exercise.
