The All Progressives Congress (APC) has recognised the Progressive Consolidation Group (PCG), a group backing Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari in 2023.
In the letter dated October 4 and seen by TheCable on Saturday, Abubakar Suileman, APC director, administration, said Mai Mala Buni, chairman of the caretaker committee, recognised the PCG as a “support group” of the party.
“We write to inform you that the national chairman, his excellency, Hon. Mai Mala Buni, has approved for your recognition as a support group of the party,” the letter read.
Speaking with journalists in Abuja on Saturday, Bala Gide, PCG’s head, said Osinbajo will build on the success of Buhari, if elected.

“We deeply appreciate the widening mobilisation and deepening support that PCG and all associated groups working towards an Osinbajo presidency, all our grassroots and national leaders, as well as current governors, federal and state lawmakers along with various labour and professional groups will have further significant roles to play post-2023,” Gide said.
“To this end, we shall not allow negative words or cast aspersions at others who may wish to canvass support for other party leaders who may hope to join the 2023 presidential race under the banner of APC.
“Rather, we shall accommodate all towards building a more formidable APC and a better Nigeria where the ideals espoused by both President Buhari and Professor Osinbajo can be wholly sustained.”
