APC stealing our achievements, says PDP

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) says the All Progressives Congress (APC) is appropriating the achievements of the Goodluck Jonathan administration and taking glory for them.

The party stated that instead of taking the glory for its achievements, “the APC and President Muhammadu Buhari should make haste and activate the various economic outlets which have been stagnated as a result of their obvious inability to articulate a clear-cut economic policy for the nation”.

Speaking through Olisa Metuh, its national publicity secretary, PDP said “it was disappointing that a government which came to power on
claims of high moral ground, rather than focusing on delivering its promises, is dancing around the achievements of the previous government in an attempt to make the public believe that recorded successes in critical sectors are theirs”.

“For instance, how do we explain APC’s spirited effort to make the public believe that the equipping of the country’s military for the fights against insurgency, the turn around of the nation’s oil refineries; and the polio-free certification of Nigeria were products of their government even when it is common knowledge that they have not been able to find their bearing for governance since their election into office,” the party said.

“If the former national security adviser (NSA), Col Sambo Dasuki had not been courageous enough to release those incontrovertible facts that the Goodluck Jonathan-led PDP administration actually fortified the country’s military before leaving office in May, the APC would have succeeded in its propaganda against that administration and led Nigerians to believe that the equipping was a product of President Buhari’s recent diplomatic shuttles.

“It is an obvious fact that before the May 29 handover to the APC, the Nigerian armed forces, using these equipment sourced under the watch of the PDP government, had already pushed the insurgents to the verge of surrender in the Sambisa forest, only for them to now recover under the APC-led government due to apparent lack of direction and confusion that have characterised this administration.

“In the same way, this government has positioned itself to claim credit for the turnaround and resuscitation of some of the nation’s oil refineries without reference to the past administration that initiated and executed the turn around maintenance (TAM) of the facilities years back, which dividends the nation now enjoys and which we expect will result in steady supply of petroleum products in our nation.

“Similarly, informed Nigerians note with dismay how the APC administration has been celebrating the certification of Nigeria as polio-free in the last one year by the World Health Organization (WHO) without giving credit to the PDP-led government under whose watch the
feat was achieved.

“While the PDP well understands the nervousness of the APC and its government in the challenge of fulfilling their bogus promises upon which they rode to power, such does not in any way rationalise the resort to deceit and flagrant appropriation of another’s achievements, a thing no serious, credible and honest government will do.”

It added that instead of trying “to poach achievements to earn an undeserved praise, the APC and its government should brace up, articulate a precise economic policy, assemble an economic team and urgently commence the delivery of their promises for which they were voted.”

The PDP said it found it unacceptable, not withstanding the reasons being adduced, for a government in a democratic setting to run for almost three months without a cabinet and any policy direction whatsoever.

“This is the first time since independence that our nation has stayed without a complete composition of government for three months. Unfortunately, the negative effect of this anomaly, which has taken a huge toll on the country’s economy and the welfare of Nigerians, will be with us in the coming years,” the party said.

“We express this concern against the backdrop of information that unpatriotic persons close to government are already hounding civil servants for inflated concessions, allocations, jobs and other favours being unduly granted, making the system fertile for heavy financial sleazes in the absence of appropriate statutory supervising officers.

“This is in addition to the avoidable economic downturn now manifesting in the abandonment of ongoing infrastructural projects, crippling of foreign and domestic investments and continued slide in the money and capital markets.

“Finally, we want to reiterate our earlier call on Nigerians to continue to pray for President Muhammadu Buhari, who for obvious reasons is surrounded by people whose divergent personal interests have become a huge burden on our dear nation, the integrity of this government, the health of our economy and sustenance of our democracy.”

  1. PDP members are full of looters since Nigeria gained independence from colonial masters. Can someone give me person who has not enriched himself or herself since PDP was formed? No fear of God/Allah in any one.

    1. Oba why dont you just take the issues Mr. Metuh have raised and counter them with facts and figures instead of just calling PDP people looters. Was PDPin existence at the colonial times? Stop displaying your ignorance online

      1. You have answer my question. What PDP achieved for 16 years in power. The same set of people ruling from colonial era are in PDP if you shine your eyes well. Are you part of looters? Curse of God is to 4th generations. Are you Achan

        1. Oba, you are not honest with your comment. The guys that are in APC are same people that had blissful days in PDP as governors, ministers, senators etc; save Tinubu, Fashola and few others who also had a feast on the economy of their respective states and local government funds. Yes, our hope is on Buhari and no one else. All the politicians that surrounds Buhari are crooks just like those that surrounded OBJ, Jonathan and even Yar Adua.

        2. Oba
I am not a supporter of any party but do you want to tell me that PDP people are not the ones in APC now? Same people that emptied the treasury like you said? Oba who is fooling who now? I don’t think APC have up to 1/3 of members who have not been in PDP nor benefited from the party. Politicians are like prostitutes – They go where the money is smelling and where there is no money – no politicians except patriots and if you are made officer holder today in a juicy position I bet you will eat more than any of the people you are calling names! Wakeup and face reality bro. Party change is no change. People change is the change.

  2. Metuh’s statement reflects my thoughts. There is a lot of revisionism going on at the moment. It is a matter for regret that the Buhari administration rather than chart a way forward for our country seems more interested in running the Jonathan administration down. It is a classic case of giving a dog a bad name in order to hang it. Like Jonathan or not, he did take some critical steps to reposition Nigeria. Whether he did so to the satisfaction of all is another matter. I believe it is morally repugnant for Buhari and his team to try to denigrate his achievements. At the point we are now, our faces should be turned forward. Government is a continuum and the Buhari administration should not keep running the past government down as if it had no virtue whatsoever. It appears to people like me that he is making excuses ahead should he fail to fulfill his promises to Nigerians.

  3. Your comment..Why does Metuh find it so hard to address the real issue rather than beating about the bushes? Has he forgotten that governance is a continuum? Obasanjo started the power plants , the various transmission projects , the rejuvenation of the railways among others . Jonathan completed them and gloated in their successes. Buhari will also leave projects for others to commission. Such is the tenets of governance.
