The national leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has suspended the state congress in Oyo state.

The party said the exercise was suspended over the “forging of documents meant for the exercise and other irregularities”.

The ruling party is holding its congresses across the country today.

“It has become necessary to suspend the ongoing State Congress exercise in Oyo State due to information regarding the forging of documents meant to conduct this exercise,” John Akpanudoedehe, APC national secretary, said in a statement issued on Saturday.

“The national chairman has, however, ordered the Oyo State Congress Committee to return to the National Secretariat for further briefing.”

Akpanudoedehe said the suspension became necessary to ensure the credibility of the process leading to the emergence of new leaders in Oyo.

He said the APC would not tolerate acts of indiscipline and fraudulent manipulation of processes. The party also assured its members of a level playing ground and justice.

Speaking with TheCable, Olawale Sadare, secretary, media and publicity committee of Oyo APC, said the suspension was due to “logistics challenges”.

“It was directed by the national secretariat of our party due to logistics challenges,” Sadare said.

“We expect further directive from the CECPC.”
