The All Progressives Congress (APC) has won all 23 chairmanship seats in the local government elections conducted in Benue state.
Richard Tombowua, chairman of the Benue State Independent Electoral Commission (BSIEC), announced the results on Sunday in Makurdi, the state capital.
Tombowua said the APC also won all 276 councillorship seats in the state.
The chairman said the election was held in all the 5,102 polling units in the state, spread across 276 council wards in the 23 local governments.

He said the results brought in by the 23 local government electoral officers show that APC won all the seats, which five other political parties keenly contested.
“A total of eight political parties participated in the elections, but in the field only five participated, which are APC, APGA, LP, PDP, and SDP,” he said.
“There is no local government where there was a candidate that was returned unopposed; every local government election is contested the same thing with the ward council.”

During the election, the Benue chapter of the APC commended BSIEC for the transparent conduct of the local government poll.
Benjamin Omale, the state APC caretaker chairman, said the process went smoothly.
“The assessment has been good. The governor has done one of the greatest things that has ever happened in Benue by enabling one of the best local government elections in the state,” he said.
