The independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Awwal Umar, candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), as the winner of the supplementary election for Giwa west house of assembly seat in Kaduna state.
Maryam Suleiman, INEC returning officer in the state, declared the results on Saturday.
Suleiman said Umar scored 15,603 votes to defeat his closest rival, Bello Mu’azu of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who polled 14,897 votes.
“Having satisfied the requirements of the law and scored the highest number of votes, Awwal Umar of the APC is returned elected,” she said.

The commission had also declared Piket Plang, APC candidate, as the winner of the supplementary election in Plateau central senatorial district.
Plang polled 131,129 votes to defeat Yohanna Gotom of the PDP who came second with 127,022 votes, and Garba Pwul of the Labour Party (LP) who came third with 36,510 votes.
INEC had announced winners in the federal legislative, governorship, and state house of assembly elections held on February 25 and March 18.

However, the electoral umpire fixed supplementary polls for the governorship in Adamawa and Kebbi states, five senatorial districts, and 31 federal and 58 state assembly constituencies where elections were suspended or declared inconclusive.
