Appeal court sets up petitions tribunal for Katsina by-elections

Monica Dongban-Mensem, president of the court of appeal, has set up a tribunal to hear petitions on Saturday’s by-election in Katsina state.

Aisha Muhammad-Fika, secretary of the tribunal, disclosed this in a statement.

“Pursuant to the powers conferred on the President, Court of appeal by the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 as amended and the electoral Act 2022 as amended, Justice Dongban-Mensam has constituted the national and state assembly by-elections tribunal for Katsina State,” Muhammad-Fika said.

“Sequel to the above, Justice Musa Danladi, the Chief Judge of Katsina State, has granted the use of High Court room No 5, situated at the state’s high court of justice complex, for the tribunal.

“For any enquiry, members of the public are advised to contact the tribunal’s registry secretariat.”

She said that a date for the inaugural sitting of the tribunal would be communicated to stakeholders.

On Saturday, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) conducted by-elections across 20 polling units in Kankara and Faskari LGAs of Katsina.
