The 2025 Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Abuja international marathon is scheduled for March 1.
The third edition of the event, which will also mark the 50th anniversary of ECOWAS, is open to all categories of runners and fitness enthusiasts across Africa and beyond.
Olukayode Thomas, ECOWAS marathon spokesperson, said the race will feature 21km and 5km categories.
He said the 5km race will begin at Eagle Square and end at the ECOWAS Commission in Asokoro Abuja, and the 21km half-marathon will start at the ECOWAS Commission and finish at the Commission.

Gabriel Okon, race director, said the prize pool for winners will be $71,000.
He added that the prize money for the 5km race has been increased, and cash prizes will be awarded to the top ten finishers.
Okon said all registered runners will receive official race certificates, finisher medals, running vests, number bibs, participant guides, and other surprise gifts.

“The event is for elites and fun runners and other classes of fitness enthusiasts from across the continent, all vying for their share of over $71,000 in prize money,” he said.
“The marathon is not only a celebration of athleticism but also a showcase of unity and the vibrant spirit of the region.”

Interested participants can register on the official website of the ECOWAS Abuja marathon. They can also obtain forms from the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) and Athletics Associations offices nationwide or Sports Council offices in the area councils across Abuja.
