The Ireland Fellows Programme has announced a post-graduate scholarship programme on humanities for Nigerians.

The programme, solely for Nigerians, provides funded one-year master’s level study at a higher education institution in Ireland in areas of law, human rights and governance.

The Irish government backs the scholarship programme. Entries are open until July 30, 2023, and will be for the 2024-25 academic year.

According to a statement on its website, the programme is “to nurture future leaders; to develop in-country capacity to achieve national SDG goals, and to build positive relationships with Ireland”.

Part of the eligibility requirements include a bachelor’s degree with first-class or second-class (upper division) from an accredited and government-recognised higher education institution. Applicant must reside in Nigeria and not already hold a qualification at master’s level or higher.

Two years of substantial work experience directly relevant to the applicant’s proposed programme(s) of study is vital.

The programme was established in honour of Roger Casement, an Irish human rights activist, who spent some of his early working life in Calabar, Nigeria.
