The Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) has launched a training programme for 500 data protection officers (DPOs) through its ‘Data Protection Training and Certification’ initiative.

In a statement on Monday, the commission said the initiative aims to meet the increasing need for data protection and privacy professionals.

“The aim of this initiative by the Commission is to cultivate a robust pool of skilled privacy professionals, in line with the Pillar 2 (Human Capital Development) of the Nigeria Data Protection Strategic Roadmap and Action Plan (NDP-SRAP) 2023-2027 and strategic vision of His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, to foster the creation of 2 million jobs in the digital economy sector,” the statement reads.

“This initiative is designed to address the growing demand for data protection and privacy professionals, equipping them with the necessary skills to thrive in the ever-evolving digital landscape.”
