The last decade recorded a surge in the social sector; young visionaries who are passionate about creating change in their communities and fixing long-standing African problems.

These young people have floated myriads of social projects, non-profit organisations, social enterprises in health care, education, youth development, childcare, women and girls’ development, and many more.

Africa is indeed in need of these changemakers who are courageous enough to step out to do something about her fraught situation.

However, creating effective and sustainable social change takes more than courage and passion. It doesn’t take long for a true social changemaker to see the need for appropriate skills and competence for their work in the social sector to make any meaningful difference, just as much as is needed in other sectors.

Equipping social changemakers is at the heart of the Emerging Social Leadership (ESL) program.

ESL is an executive education program by the Oak Nation Entrepreneurial (ONE) Foundation that equips visionaries in the social sector with the required knowledge, skills resources, and networks needed to create sustainable social change.

The programme, which launched in 2020 and already equipped more than 20 changemakers in six nonprofit sectors, covers crucial themes such as organizational basics (theory of change) organizational structure, finance, impact measurement, impact reporting, and maximizing leverage. ESL utilizes a comprehensive model that makes learning practical for participants.

“ESL is a foundation upon which every social project leader must pitch and grow on. It offered the backdrop for sustaining social projects in every sphere,” Tomiwa Bello, a 2020 alumnus, said while narrating his experience.

Grace Nwoko, another 2020 alumna, reported that the course led her organization to remap their structure and identify their growth stage and how to advance their work.

Successful applicants are provided fully sponsored scholarships for the program. You can apply for ESL here. Applications close by 11:59 pm WAT on August 9, 2021.
