The World Food Programme (WFP), the humanitarian agency of the United Nations (UN) fighting hunger worldwide, is seeking a qualified candidate as a communications officer.
The UN agency released the call for applications on July 24.
The WFP said the ideal candidate is expected to work with a high degree of independence, using technical knowledge and experience to plan and implement communication and media strategies, provide advice and solutions to problems, and deliver high-quality communications products.
The candidate will also be expected to develop, maintain, and update an appropriate communications strategy and work plan, which implements the corporate communications strategy to build and expand the WFP brand and support fundraising activities.

Desired qualifications include an advanced university degree in journalism, international relations, public relations, communications, or another relevant field.
A first university degree with additional years of related work experience is also an advantage.
Applicants are also required to have a minimum of five years of practical professional (managerial) work experience in communication, print and broadcast media, or interactive digital media.

Experience in international and national fieldwork experience and utilising specialist communications techniques to enhance functional outputs are also listed as criteria.
The role, which will be based in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital city, is a full-time position.
