Arik Air: FAAN asks airport managers to assist affected passengers with flight rebooking

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) says passengers affected by the grounding of Arik Air operation will be assisted with alternative flights.

FAAN spoke on Tuesday, in a statement signed by Obiageli Orah, its director of public affairs and consumer protection.

Arik Air’s operations were suspended on Tuesday following a directive from Festus Keyamo, the minister of aviation and aerospace development.

Reacting to the development, Roy Ilegbodu, the chief executive officer (CEO) of Arik Air (in receivership), said the minister’s directive was without warning and could have a ripple effect on the firm.

Ilegbodu said Keyamo’s decision was a move against the ongoing court processes, adding that it would affect Nigerians as well as the country’s economy.

Intervening on the matter, the FAAN said all airport managers have been instructed to assist all affected passengers of Arik Air with available flights.

“This is to inform the public that the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) is aware that Arik Airline has been grounded due to litigation issues between the airline and their creditors,” FAAN said.

“The Authority has instructed all airport managers across the country to assist the affected passengers as Arik Airline works out plans to rebook and transfer passengers to other available flights.

FAAN also said it would continue to ensure safety, security, and comfort for all air travellers in Nigeria.
