Remembrance cancelled in Adamawa ‘for security reasons’

The final ceremony of laying of wreaths for this year’s Armed Forces Remembrance Day in Adamawa has been cancelled.

Bashir Babayola, the state chairman of the Nigerian Legion, disclosed this in an interview with NAN in Yola, on Thursday.

Babayola said he received a telephone call from the protocol department of the government house, Yola, informing him of the suspension of the ceremony, based on security reasons.

“I also met with the Brigade Commander of 23rd Armoured Brigade, Yola, who confirmed the cancellation to me,” Babayola said.

The chairman, who did not give details of security reasons, apologised to his members and the public for any inconveniences caused by the cancellation.

Meanwhile, many people who were unaware of the cancellation including journalists had gone to Ribadu Square, Yola, for the event.

Adamawa is one of the three north-eastern states frequently attacked by Boko Haram.
