Army: 32 Boko Haram insurgents willingly surrender

The army says 32 Boko Haram terrorists have willingly surrendered to troops at different locations in Borno state.

Texas Chukwu, army spokesman, made this known in a statement issued on Sunday.

He said among the surrendered insurgents was one Ibrahim Lawal, who handed over one AK 47 rifle. Chukwu said Lawal also surrendered two magazines containing 59 rounds of 7.62mm (special) ammunition.

“The surrendered terrorists are currently undergoing interrogation and will be handed over to the appropriate authority on completion,” he said.

The surrender comes after Rawani Goni, an ex-Boko Haram commander, said he could facilitate the surrender of Abubakar Shekau and 137 insurgents.

In another development, the army says troops of 112 task force battalion deployed in operation Lafiya Dole on June 30 neutralised five Boko Haram terrorists while on clearance patrol to Anadawa village, Borno.

Similarly, troops were said to have repelled an attack by Boko Haram terrorists at Banki in Bama local government area of Borno.
