Two weeks after 12 soldiers (pictured) were sentenced to death for mutiny, the Nigerian army has announced that more soldiers will be court-martialled for the same offence.
The trial, which will hold on Thursday, has been scheduled for the Mogadishu cantonment, Abuja, where the initial one held.
Col. Aliyu Yusuf, the spokesman of the cantonment, told reporters that he was unaware of the trial and promised to make the information available should he confirm it.
But one of the lawyers representing the soldiers that would be court-martialled said the trial was originally scheduled to hold on Tuesday, but it was postponed till Thursday because of the country’s 54th independence day celebrations.

“When I got here this morning, I was told that the court-martial had been postpone till Thursday because of the Independence anniversary coming up tomorrow, Wednesday,” he said.
The soldiers standing trial were alleged to have committed mutiny by refusing to join troops for an operation in Maiduguri, capital of Borno state, on August 4, 2014.
