The Nigerian army has appointed a new commander to lead its operations against Boko Haram.
The army announced the appointment on its Twitter handle on Sunday.
“To meet up with the established time line of bringing to a successful conclusion the fight against terrorism and insurgency the Nigerian army has appointed a new commander for Operation Lafiya Dole,” it said.
“He is Major General Yusha’u Mahmood Abubakar. Until this appointment, he was the commander of Nigerian army armoured corps.

“Although it is a unified command coordinating three and seven divisions of the Nigerian army as well as other elements of Operation Lafiya Dole one important point to also note is that this is the first time the Nigeria army in its history is deploying corps headquarters in the field.”
The army added that the appointment is with immediate effect.
