Army to slash ‘high fees’ in military schools

Tukur Buratai, chief of army staff, has lamented the poor condition of primary and secondary schools run by the military across the country.

Complaining about exorbitant fees charged in the schools, Buratai said efforts were being made to address the situation.

The army chief also said the military had recorded more progress under the democratic dispensation.

He was speaking on Saturday during a visit to the armoured corps and 33 artillery brigade in Bauchi.

“The military is far better off under democratic dispensation than what it used to be under the military rules,” he said.

“We have, therefore, remained non-political as imbibed by the army, since 1999, and we must remain focused, loyal, professional and dedicated to our responsibilities.

“We must equally work with other sister agencies such as the police, state security service and other para-military organisations and must observe their rules.”

Buratai also urged them to cultivate the spirit of ‘esprit-de-corps’ among one another and to create peaceful co-existence between ranks and files.

He said the military authorities have commenced the renovation of barracks and would construct more to curb shortage of accommodation being faced by the military.

Buratai also expressed concern over shortage accommodation at a training school in the state, describing pairing of soldiers as “not convenience to the regimentation.”

He said provision which President Muhammadu Buhari made for the military, had been yielding positive results in the war against insurgency.
