Army to conduct shooting training for troops in Ibadan, asks residents not to panic

The 2 division of the Nigerian Army in Ibadan, Oyo state capital, says it will carry out weapon handling skills training and testing for soldiers in the cantonment. 

Polykarp Okoye, the division’s acting deputy director of public relations, said in a statement on Tuesday that the training will commence on August 26.

Okoye said the training will improve the troops’ weapon-handling skills for better outcomes in military operations.

He said the exercise would evaluate the troops’ training level and readiness for combat and other military tasks.

He said the 2024 second schedule of range classification exercise is a crucial training requirement for troops, noting that it will run till September 20.

The spokesperson said the exercise would be held at Major General Azinta shooting range, Adekunle Fajuyi cantonment in Ibadan.

“In view of the above, all communities situated around Adekunle Fajuyi Cantonment are please be informed not to panic on hearing sounds of gunshots during this period,” NAN quoted Okoye as saying.

“Accordingly, all those farming and hunting within the barrack are please advised to avoid the range area throughout the period.”
