Leandro Trossard was the difference as Arsenal overcame a disjointed but spirited Manchester United side 1-0 in their English Premier League (EPL) encounter at Old Trafford on Sunday.

The Belgian attacker scored in the first half in a game of two halves in which Arsenal bossed the first while Man United threatened in the second.

Casemiro and Johnny Evans were paired in central defence by injury-ravaged United, and it was the Brazilian midfielder who was at fault for Arsenal’s goal. The former Real Madrid player was slow to create an offside trap and Kai Havertz exploited the tardiness to slip Trossard on goal, and the Belgian slotted into the net.

The Gunners tried in vain for the clincher but were denied by Andre Onana, while Man United improved in the second period but could not deliver the killer punch to end Arsenal’s title challenge.

The victory means Arsenal have defeated Man United both home and away this season, for the first time since 2007.

Mikel Arteta’s side have also won three straight matches against the Red Devils for the first time since 1998.

Arsenal returns to the top of the table with 86 points from 37 matches, one point ahead of Manchester City who have played a game less, as the EPL champion will be decided on the final day of the season next weekend.
