Asisat Oshoala ‘not considering suicide’ as believed

Following media reports and widespread concern over the state of Asisat Oshoala’s wellbeing, the Super Falcons star has confirmed that her Instgram account was hacked and the alarming posts about her suicide should be disregarded.

Earlier on Friday, some disturbing images were posted on Oshoala’s Instagram page with the words, “I am tired of life I wanna leave already. God I am tired help me.”

Many of her fans and followers were shocked and reacted by reaching out to the Nigerian sports idol. Gbenga Adeyinka commented on the post, telling her “Dear @superzee you will be alright. A lot of us believe in you. Please don’t do anything drastic.”

Oshoala seems to have regained control of her social media account, as she uploaded an image of herself receiving the BBC 2015 Women’s Footballer of the Year award with the words, Hello everyone….yes, my acct. was HACKED!! I’m doing great and training with my other Super Falcons…and there is no stopping us! Thank u for the love/concern. I’m ready for this WORLD CUP!!!

Her Twitter account was hacked as well. Last week, there were some strange posts and activity on her account, which also affected her previous tweets.

Asisat Oshoala is the first African footballer to join the English FA Women’s Super League, playing for the Liverpool Ladies.

She was also best player and second top goal scorer with the Super Falcons team who won the 2014 African Women’s Championship.

In September 2014, she was honoured as Member of the Order of the Niger by former president Goodluck Jonathan.

Asisat has been tipped as the tournaments biggest star player to watch out for in the 2015 Women’s World Cup in Canada, which kicks off on Saturday June 6, and which, by the way, TheCable’s Victor Akhidenor will be covering life from the North American country.
