Ask for ID card, CAC certificate before patronising POS operators, Oyo police tell residents

The Oyo police command has warned residents against patronising unregistered point of sale (POS) operators in the state.

Adewale Osifeso, Oyo police spokesperson, in a statement on Saturday, expressed concern over the “sudden proliferation” of POS operators in the state.

He said customers should endeavour to ask for identity cards and Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) certificates before patronising POS operators.

“The Oyo State Police Command, through purposeful led intelligence, wishes to alert members of the public, particularly residents of the state, about the sudden proliferation of criminal and unregistered Point of Sales Terminal Operators across the State, whose sole aim of existence is to criminally conspire with unscrupulous elements to redistribute financial proceeds from criminal dealings,” the statement reads.

“While enjoining members of the public to exercise extreme vigilance and caution in their dealings during any “outside the banking hall operations”, it is not out of place to validate every transaction process by demanding from the operators their identity cards, certificate of incorporation from the Corporate Affairs Commission, and other relevant approved documents of authentication from their legally recognised associations.

“The Commissioner of Police, CP Adebowale Williams, promises to clamp down heavily on any individual or group whose intent is to truncate the relative tranquility maintained in the State.

“In cases of emergency, the Command can always be reached through these emergency control room numbers: 615 (toll free) (Oyo state security trust fund), and Oyo State Police Command emergency lines 07055495413 and 08081768614.

“The NPF rescue me app is also available for free download on both Android and Apple IOS, for Android and iPhone users, respectively.”

The development comes hours after a resident, identified as Abubakar Ibrahim, was robbed in Bodija axis of Oyo state.

Ibrahim was said to have been shot, while the sum of N270,000 was stolen from him.
