Atiku: Jonathan lacks experience to lead Nigeria

Former vice-president, Atiku Abubakar, says President Goodluck Jonathan is too inexperienced to lead the country.

Speaking on Friday during an interview with AFP, Atiku said the ongoing insurgency would not have degenerated to the current level if the federal government had tackled it effectively.

He commended the Obasanjo-led administration for its effort in not allowing the violence from the Boko Haram escalate to a large scale.

“This insurgency shouldn’t have lasted even six months,” he said

“Within weeks, we crushed it because we did not neglect military training and, of course, we did not lack the leadership and the capacity to take decisions.

“I told Nigerians that he [Jonathan] did not have the capacity; he didn’t have the experience. He didn’t have anything and yet they gave him the chance, the opportunity. And they can now see the chance and the opportunity they gave him. Of course, I’m more experienced than he is. I believe my capacity cannot be compared with his, in all respect.”

Abubakar also argued that Jonathan lacks the will needed to steer the country in the right direction, lamenting that the country has experienced corruption, poor governance and accountability and worsening security situation under the current president.

Though the former vice president lost the presidential ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to Jonathan in 2011, Abubakar is presently aspiring to be president under the platform of the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC).

While PDP has endorsed Jonathan as its sole presidential candidate for the 2015 election, Abubakar still has a tough hurdle to cross in the APC.

Former head of state, Muhammadu Buhari; speaker of the federal house of representatives, Aminu Tambuwal; Kano state governor, Rabiu Kwankwoso; and publisher of Leadership Newspaper, Sam Nda-Isaiah; are among those seeking to contest on the platform of the opposition in February 2015.

  1. Any crisis that lasts more than 6 months in any country is been sponsored by government for political reasons.
Who will gain if no elections holds in the 3 northern state while the insurgents are almost in total control of, The government. Who will gain if there is tenure elongation as a result of the insurgency in the country, The government too. So what are we saying?
It took small Cameroon less than 48 hours to rescue the wife of there PM but the self acclaimed giant of Africa has been unable to rescue over 200 young school girls captured by the insurgents after almost 160 days and it took a young girl from Pakistan Malala to get the Gej -led government to see the parents of this kidnapped girls and you tell the FG is not in the know of what is truly happening?
we will only move forward if we tell ourselves the truth and charge the FG who has our mandate to be accountable to us and stop toiling with the lives of the masses, If not we will have a very long way to go.
Why are we attacking Atiku for saying the truth when is there for all to see but some of us has refused to see simply for the gains from the administration.
May God help us all and give us the grace to say the truth even in the hardest of time.

  2. Atiku your arrogance and lack of respect has been your bane yet yu will not learn,at eagle square instead of presenting your manifesto you chosed to insult presient GEJ and the people booed you.You always claim to know better than those leading you,it was so when you were under Obj.for me you can never win at the rate you are going go and learn tact and manners the GEJ that does not have experience is getting endorsement from all corners without locking or forcing anybody yet you claim he is not fit, the bad roads you and Obj lied to us about yet you are blind. We the majority of Nigerians are not intereste in looters experince we need a cool and calculated fellow to lead us and GEJ is that man

  3. I have always wondered why a problem as serious as Boko Haram is
being treated with kid gloves, even when the govt claims they know the people
behind it. What does that say about a government, cos a government has to be weak or nonchalant to allow such atrocities go on while it can clearly be handled, only to cry wolf that opposition are responsible for our problems. If the opposition are so strong then why not vacate the seat, after all the presidency is not about GEJ is an office for the strong and capable.
