The Afenifere Youth Coalition has condemned an alleged campaign of calumny against Kayode Egbetokun, the inspector-general of police (IGP), and other public office holders from the south-west.
Speaking at a press conference in Lagos, Adebayo Salami, the group’s coordinator, said the alleged attack on the IGP is part of “an agenda to destabilise” the administration of President Bola Tinubu.
The group added that citizens must ensure they use social media platforms appropriately and not as a means of attack against their leaders.
“The attacks on the IGP are not just a random act of provocation; they are part of a larger agenda to destabilize the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” the group said.

“This is unacceptable, and as Yoruba youths committed to the peace and progress of our land, we refuse to sit idly by while such reckless behaviour continues unchecked.
“The continued defamation of respected public figures must be checked. Indeed, the judiciary must ensure that justice is served and set a precedent that online defamation, cyberbullying, and targeted harassment will no longer be tolerated. The era where social media is used as a weapon of political sabotage must come to an end.”
