Audu-Faleke organisation condemns robbery charge against Audu’s son

The Audu/Faleke political organisation says the arrest and subsequent arraignment of Mohammed Audu, son of late Abubakar Audu, on armed robbery charges is an attempt to create an atmosphere of disorderliness in Kogi state.

The late Abubakar Audu was the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, but died before the election was concluded.

Although, the party replaced the late Audu with Yahaya Bello the incumbent governor of the state, James Faleke, his running mate, is asking the supreme court to declare him governor.

Mohammad, Audu’s son, was arraigned at a Lokoja magistrate court on Thursday following the allegation of robbery.

In a statement on Friday, Duro Meseko, spokesman of the group, called on Ibrahim Idris, inspector-general of police (IGP), to wade into the matter.

He said the IGP should caution police officers in the state to be careful while dealing with sensitive political issues.

“The arrest and subsequent arraignment on armed robbery charges was aimed at justifying a pre-determined goal of creating an atmosphere of insecurity in the state with the supreme court judgment approaching,” Meseko said.

“We thought the alarm we raised few days ago about plans to arm-twist the judiciary with a fake security report would serve to keep the Alhaji Bello’s camp in check but rather it has brought out from them a fresh carefully scripted plan to start indiscriminate arrests of Audu/Faleke supporters ahead of the supreme court judgment to justify the fake security report that there would be anarchy in Kogi if Bello is removed from office.”
