The Ogun state government has embarked on the training of automotive artisans on the new techniques in the conversion of petrol engines to compressed natural gas (CNG).

At least 40 artisans are benefiting from the first phase of the training organised by the Ogun state economic transformation project (OGSTEP) and funded by the World Bank.

The training seeks to support and enhance the capacity of artisans in the state’s automotive industry.

The training includes conversion of vehicle engines from petrol to CNG and training on vehicle components that involves the design and installation of CNG fuel systems in compliance with safety codes and standards.

He said the training covered auto-mechatronics, auto-electrical, CNG conversion, digital literacy, adult literacy, health and safety.

Osunsanya added that the trainees were selected from all the mechanic clusters across the state to participate in the pilot training programme.

Osokoya Babatunde, the lead facilitator, said the CNG training initiative is not meant to eradicate the use of petrol but to serve as an alternative for vehicles.
