Avengers hit NNPC gas pipeline in Akwa Ibom

The Niger Delta Avengers have attacked a gas pipeline belonging to the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) in Akwa Ibom state.

According to Mudoch Agbinibo, spokesman of the group, the attack took place in Nsit-Ibom local government area around 11:30pm on Sunday.

There has been no official confirmation of the sabotage, but the group usually announces its activities through statements on its website.

Nigeria’s oil production has dropped as a result of attacks from militants, who are currently divided over negotiation with the federal government.

While the Movement for the Emancipation for the Niger Delta (MEND) has set up a negotiating team as a result of the restiveness in the Niger Delta, Avengers say they will not dialogue with the government.

The group said its aim is to cripple the country’s economy.
