The Ondo government has mourned the death of some residents in a tanker explosion in Ore, Odigbo LGA, on Sunday.
TheCable had reported that at least eight people, including a pregnant woman and three children, died in the incident.
Odunlami Ibukun, the spokesperson of the Ondo police command, confirmed that a petrol tanker fell and people rushed to scoop petrol, after which it exploded.
Sending condolences to the victims’ families, Bamidele Ademola-Olateju, Ondo commissioner for information and orientation, on Monday, described the tanker explosion as a “mind-numbing and avoidable tragedy that is devastating”.

“It is a tragedy that should not have occurred. Our hearts go out to the victims of the fuel tanker explosion and their families,” he said.
“This is the most horrendous way to die. We are shocked and traumatized as we express the depth of our grief for the victims of the explosion.
“This is one tragedy too many and it is our joint responsibility to ensure this does not happen again.

“May God grant repose to the souls of the departed and succour to their families,” the statement concluded.”
