Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) have crashed out of the 2023 African Women’s Basketball League (AWBL).
The Border Girls were trounced 89-65 by Angola’s Inter Clube in the competition’s quarter-final at the Sporting Club Alexandria, Egypt, on Sunday.
NCS had progressed to the knockout stage after finishing third in Group A following the defeat of the National Social Security Fund (CNSS) of Congo in their last game on Friday.
But Inter Clube, who finished second in their group, proved a steeper challenge for Nigeria Customs.

The Angolans ran the NCS ragged from the tip-off and were already ahead 31-11 at the end of the first quarter.
The Border Girls were no match for their opponents’ intensity, and a clear difference was established in the second quarter when the score grew to 60-27 at halftime.
Nigeria Customs’ second-half resurgence could only slow down the onslaught as Inter Clube consolidated their lead in the final two quarters to earn a 22-point victory.
